Thorogood's history dates back to 1892 when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner Joseph Peffer, serving the "Jobbing" trades. The company went on to become a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army in World War I, introduce the "Job-fitted" concept, and venture into safety footwear production in the 1930s. Over the decades, Thorogood has celebrated milestones such as its 50th, 100th, and 125th anniversaries, weathered wars, and transitioned to employee ownership through an ESOP. Today, Thorogood continues to innovate, opening a new factory in Merrill, WI and launching its first western wear product, the Square Toe Wellingtons, as it celebrates 130 years as a company.
